Nubuck versus Suede: Two Styles, A Common Charm
Hello, I’m Nabuk.
I am made from the outer-facing part of the hide, the grain layer of the skin of both cattle and sheep. After the tanning process, which can be either chromium salt or vegetable tanning, I am finished off with brushing, sanding and buffing to produce a velvety, silky surface. The small imperfections you may notice on me are distinctive marks on the animal’s skin, making me unique and very special. I am both delicate and precious, and need care and attention to keep my beauty intact.
Hello, I’m Suede.
I also originate from the hides of cattle or sheep, but I am known as Suede. Unlike Nubuck, I am made by splitting the animal hide to separate the softer inner layer. After chromium salt tanning, I am brushed and sanded to give me a soft, velvety texture. In contrast to Nubuck, my surface is even and free of grain, but I am a little less durable.
The choice is yours: do you prefer the natural and genuine appeal of Nabuk, or the uniform but versatile softness of Suede?
